Asking the Times

Asking about the future
And the future may have a word
Or may be timid without a smile
A faceless moment for awhile

Not even a seer can perceive
What tomorrow can bring
Even a prophet may fail
To see a smooth or rough sail

Asking about today
And today may give a reply
Or may show an occurrence
A twaddle thing or with sense

Be sentient of what comes about
Be wary with right or wrong
With the occurrence within
A contemporary world you’re in

Asking about the past
And the past may speak aloud
Or may bring back a depiction
A remembrance of an action

The times of yore is the teacher
To edify and give a sign
Taking no notice of is tantamount
To hidden blockage we try to surmount

The prospect, the present and days gone by
All is part of everyone’s life
Can be ignored or paid attention to
Caveats, gives a lesson as we all go

Ang Tao ('di maintindihan)

Bakit ang tao madalas ay hindi
maintindihan.
Kapag bata ay nais na maging
matanda.
May matanda na nag-iisip
bata.
Mayroon naman na pilit na
nagmamarunong.
At mayroong nagdadamot ng kanilang
dunong.
May mga taong labis ang tiwala sa
sarili.
ilaan
Alin man dito ang taglay mong
katangian.
Marapat lamang na iyong
pagnilayan.
Ang labis at kulang, dulot ay ‘di
maganda.
Isipin at gawin kung ano lamang ang
tama.

Have I told you about yesterday?,
of the lush green mountains I saw,
the thick virgin forest,
the flock of birds that dwell on the trees.

Have I told you of what I saw?
The river with crystal clear water,
the school of fish in a shallow sea,
the mangroves that protect the shores.

The fresh air that I breathed,
the rice fields that colored gold,
the water curtains on the earth walls.
All that I witnessed and enjoyed.

Did I tell you of what I see today?
The billowing dark smoke in the air,
the tin boxes running in congest,
the concrete roads that become rivers.

The concrete boxes rising in the fields,
the mountains exposing its scalps,
the arid riverbeds now revealed,
the birds that are now in cages.

Do you know what I visualize for tomorrow?
My children could still see the trees,
the birds, the rivers, and the golden fields,
the school of fish and the beautiful water falls,

They could still see the lush green mountains,
the thick virgin forest.
Hold it in their hands and see,
as they flip the pages of a story.
