In the Plaza

The place was cleaned but hardly gleams,
though painted but it doesn’t seems.
The fence around that colored green,
reflect to wares that could be seen.

The grassy land now turns to brown,
catches the leaves of trees that frown.
The men working so lazily,
perhaps because of sunny day.

There’s a vendor pushing a cart,
selling his goods around the park.
While other kids play and have fun,
a filthy boy begging for alms.

A banner hanging between posts,
utter the greetings of the host.
So!... the place was painted and cleaned,
for there are visitors coming.

At the center a figure stands,
apparently looking around.
A witness to all that happens,
for it has been there ever since.

The daily life in the plaza,
there’s happy moment and drama.
The statue that stands there alone,
like The One who watches us all.

The Role

Each one of us has a role to perform,
that in one way or another affects
your life and my life, or someone around.
A role to endure whatever it takes.

Each one of us has a role to perform,
a task to help others who are in need,
a task to protect those who were oppressed.
For that’s how we might have been created.

Each one of us has a role to perform,
gives love but never gets loved in return,
gives his life for others but no one cares.
For that’s the fate we have since we were born.

Each one of us has a role to perform,
a parent who cares but misunderstood,
a child who needs care but was abandoned.
To survive, we fight as much as we could.

Each one of us has a role to perform,
someone who follows and someone who leads,
one who makes the rule or someone who breaks.
For life is likened to good and bad weeds.

Life on Earth is a role to take and do,
although we known not what’s at stake beyond.
For when we were assigned to take our role,
how to use it, we’re given a freehand.

Our Parents

There were times in our life when things happen
Which when we were still a child, we wonder
In our minds there were questions that arose
And Nanay was always there to answer

Sometimes, there were heavy tasks to be done
Maybe perplex that requires a strong arm
Tatay was always there to give a hand
Making sure that we’re out from any harm

Our life may not have been so abounding
For we’re not born in a silver platter
And though in some things we were deficient
Our parents’ love made us not to bother

Nanay was truly the light in our home
Who guided us in every endeavor
And Tatay was the strength to depend on
Who supported us with so much fervor

Nanay and Tatay may not be perfect
But for us they’re not simple but the best
And if a chance we come to life again
We will choose Nanay and Tatay with zest
